Oscar madness! My favorite looks from the red carpet

Oh, the sorts of fashion that's paraded in front of the eyes when you sit down for the Oscars. I loved how black and white dominated the oscars' this time. As always, there were some major fashion faux pas and some stunningly beautiful looks. Best and worst dressed I won't do but I will pick out the ones that really caught my eye. Here are a few celebs who I thought looked stunning.

This Alexander McQueen stunner is exquisite! The gold and black chiffon looks bold and creative - the stunning pattern makes a statement straight away. Pure, pure wonder, it's designed to perfection! What would a girl not give to have a dress like this?

This ethereal white off shoulder gown by Elie Saab is another wonder. Mila Jovavich looks beautiful, love the dark eyes and rouged mouth, hair is beautifully styled. This one is sheer sophistication!

Ah, Penelope Cruz looks gorgeous, doesn't she? I'm in love with her dress for two reason alone - the fabric and the color. It's that wonderful shade of blue, that compels you - mesmerizes you. The drapes of organza spin their magic on my eyes I must say. This Armani gown is breath taking, it evokes feeling of royalty, it truly does and Penelope looks regal wearing it.

Sandra Bullock looked amazing! The black and white Marchesa gown is divine! The black and white give it a classy and contemporary look at the same time, Love the embellished details and the scooping low back neck! This dress is wow!

I'm such a crazy Natalie fan. Here she looks chic and classy in this Dior bustier gown. The retro polka dots look fantastic! Also love her necklace and the black clutch! J'adore!

Despite what a lot of people are saying, I actually liked Emma Stone's gown. I think she looked very pretty and feminine, the hues of pink complimented her fair skin perfectly. The gown is wonderfully draped  of course and I like the halter neck too. I just think a smaller knot at the neck, or perhaps a smaller bunch of fabric might have looked a lot of flattering. Nevertheless, I absolutely love the metallic clutch Emma carries and I think she looks young, fun and pretty.

The book of lost fragrances by M.J.Rose

This book looks so good! The cover is beautiful enough to make me want to read this one. Here's a brief synopsis:

A sweeping and suspenseful tale of secrets, intrigue, and lovers separated by time, all connected through the mystical qualities of a perfume created in the days of Cleopatra—and lost for 2,000 years.

Jac L’Etoile has always been haunted by the past, her memories infused with the exotic scents that she grew up surrounded by as the heir to a storied French perfume company. In order to flee the pain of those remembrances—and of her mother’s suicide—she moves to America, leaving the company in the hands of her brother Robbie. But when Robbie hints at an earth-shattering discovery in the family archives and then suddenly goes missing—leaving a dead body in his wake—Jac is plunged into a world she thought she’d left behind. - Goodreads

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Hello fellow readers who happen to be members of netgalley!! Here's your chance to download a free e-book, available till the 29th of this month. The cover looks fantastic to be honest, there's mystery, history, and medieval - what's not to like? Love the dress too! And that cross bow. I only hope the lead is as kick ass as she looks on the cover :)

Happy reading!

Here's a brief synopsis:

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

For the Bollywood Divas out there!

Oh, these Loubi's are fun! They look spunky and eclectic, a must have for anyone who likes to dress differently. I'd personally would've done without the wavy embellishment on the sole, the rest all looks so pretty!

The beautiful, mysterious and melancholy

This is the beautiful mesmerizing, divine work by Kahori Maki. I simply love these muted hue illustrations. Of late, K M's work has been my sole source of inspiration when it comes to fashion drawing.

There is something wonderfully melancholic about these inked girls, it's sadness and beauty, captivating and thought provoking at the same time.

I particularly am a fan of the dark inks on the eyes, I've always been in love with inks ever since I stumbled upon the works of Cassandra Rhodin [another of my favorite illustrator] The flow of colors as it seeks through the wet page, blending in with the rest and fading.

Kahori Maki's details are perfection! They are simply exquisite! No other words to describe it. I can stare and stare at this illustration above and not get tired of it. Also love the whole surreal, fantasy feel these drawings have. It's like falling down the rabbit hole and discovering a wonderland.

Despite what many people believe, I think being devoid of color only makes art more interesting because it lets you focus on the finer details without being hampered or distracted by colors. I find sheer joy in these grays.

Of traditions and Jewels

So, I came across this beautiful necklace and I absolutely adored it. It's traditional and feminine, without being overly blingy. I love the kundun and bead work personally, it's such a shame it's not of much value these days.

More inspiration boards I found

TEMPTATION is what it says. I've been going through the process of cleaning out all the files that are gathering virtual dust in my computer storage and I came across another lovely inspiration board that I'd compiled a while back. I think it's beautiful, I love all the pictures I combined together. I'm definitely going to use this for some of my designs this year. I love the regal, sophisticated and mysterious look it symbolizes. It's bold and exotic, something forbidden and darkly enticing.

Hues of purple, gold and rich reds are so classic, they never go out of style.

My latest source of inspiration! HYPER NATURE

So, I compiled a few images together that I felt echoed this theme and depicted nicely the words that I wanted others to see. I've always been a big admirer of the surrealistic, something about it draws me - compels me, just so hypnotically. So, for this year I've decided to walk down the fantastically eerie, mysteriously creative territory and unleash my inner genius! To me, nothing is more perfect than the juxtaposition of crazy on chic and modern. To me, fantasy is the love child of surreal and mystery, brought up by romance.

I think this is ideal for spring, it's a divine fresh palette of colors, wonderfully vibrant and new. I'm thinking lots of floral patterns, lovely smell of sun baked berries, hmm, yummy. Soft, sheer fabrics in voluminous drapes, with uniquely structured elements. Oh, I've awakened the creative giant within now.

Keep an eye out for movies reviews!

Yes! I did get to watch quite a bit of cinema while I was vacationing, sadly not much book reading but anyways I'll be reviewing the movies I watched and making a list of new ones to watch! :)

As for today, it's a pewter sky I woke up to today in Islamabad but it's not going to dampen my mood because I'm going out to meet some friends today after like 6 months. Yeah, life always makes sure you're not having too much fun. So I'll try to make the best of it and have a grand time. Will tell you all about it when I get back, maybe show a picture or two.

Speaking of which, I really tried some photography on my trip this time. It was a big disappointment but no matter, I shall be posting those photos once I edit them to my liking. Tell me how you all have been doing? Who's enjoying the winters and who's not?

I am finally back from vacations!

Yes I am! :)
And really glad to be getting back to my life. Unfortunately, being away for 2 months also means a lot of piled up work for me so lately I've been busy organizing and cleaning up. I'm positive that next week, I'll be able to blog a lot more. It's my new years resolution! Writing a post here everyday, whether anyone reads it or not :)
